A mommy friend of mine turned to me one day and said ‘Who ever would have thought this is what we’d be doing?’ Somewhere between watching my son climb up the playground ladder and giving him yet another juice box, that EXACT thought went through my mind. Did she read it, banner-style, across my forehead? Were we soul sisters? Or maybe it was just what all of us women who ‘gave it all’ up to become Stay At Home Mom’s thought at some point in time?
I think our generation suffers from too much structure sometimes. Meaning…. we’ve got time telling devices everywhere, we can get email, texts and voicemails interrupting every moment of life, and we have a propensity to hyper plan things so we can do more, get more, see more, be more. So, it should stand as no surprise that like many college educated women, my plan involved establishing my career, getting married, having kids and continuing to do it all (and do it well) until I was ready to retire on my carefully calculated 401K retirement account (which is now.. ugh… just like everyone else!)
On December 31st, 2008, another little boy decided he wanted to come out and party. Noah is our Baby New Year, arriving two weeks prior to his due date. Welcoming him to the world proved to be the best way to start a New Year…ever.
After a few months, I kinda got the hang of juggling two kids. Like any other mom will tell you, multi-tasking goes to a whole new level once you have two muchkins. Life is now full on, scheduling playdates, taking my sons here and there, being involved in the local mother’s club and creating a paradise of domestic bliss. While those I’ve left behind in my professional life may not understand it, my most important job of being a Mom to my two little men, is the most gratifying one ever. (If someone would have hipped me to that earlier, I would have told my last, narcissistic boss to piss off a lot sooner.)
I swore I’d never get a minivan. For me, being born and raised in NYC, the minivan is the symbol of suburban blah. But beaten down by practicality, I agreed to get one. A full-time mom, I’m now onboard the Mommy Van. It’s quite a crazy ride, but I quite like it that way.

Kim — I saw your posts about your blog on FB and have been reading and cracking up! Who knew — you write pretty closely to the way I think. I’m adding you to my list of blogs to read. Thank you for your insightful honesty and attempts to stay sane with two babes in suburbia. Love it! Thanks for the laughs.

I spent some time today reading how you began this blog. I began looking at various types of blogs and love how diverse they all are. I find yours not just amusing, but insightful for the time of your life, the life of a mommy for your little men.
I enjoy reading it. It was actually your blog and my two kid’s blogs that pushed me to do one of my own. A writer’s journal merely. Something I hope will be a compliment to my books.
I know you are very busy, but you should consider looking into sending some of these out to different magazines or e-zines. I am sure lots of other young moms would enjoy them.
Have fun. I sign with her name and not the one you know. F. Fois

Hi Lisa, I have two kids.. a toddler and an infant. We did have (and still have) a Subaru Outback and prior to baby #2, our other ‘station car’ (for my husband who commutes) was a 10+ year old used Toyota Camry. He had an accident in it on ice and basically totaled it, so it moved up our timeline on a 2nd car. We were looking at other cars (SUVs) Highlander, Ford Flex and such, but actually realized the Sienna had better fuel economy than some of those and more passenger space. We travel a bit and when you factor in things like the portacrib, stroller, ski gear, luggage for 4 for a week… the outback didn’t even cut it for the luggage space for a weekend. Good on you for being able to manage your kids with an Acura Integra. And trust me.. if I could drive a Mini Cooper now… i certainly would. What an eco-friendly and FUN car!
